Tipton Machine and Garage Company

From the February 3, 1911 Tipton Times:

A New Enterprise

Thos. Lander and his son-in-law, L. B. McDowell, have leased the Wm. Ferguson building formerly occupied by Wm. Cole, the veterinarian, which they are converting into what will be known as the Tipton Machine Shop and Auto Garage.

This is something that is badly needed in this city, and we bespeak for Messrs. Land & McDowell, success in business.

To Enlarge Garage

Thomas Lander has in course of construction a new addition, 30x49 feet to be added to his present garage west of the Maclay block. This when completed, will make a floor space of 30x60 feet.

From the January 2, 1914 Tipton Times:

Bought Mansfield's Garage

Lander & McDowell have purchased the garage and everything pertaining thereto from Ado Mansfield and they will consolidate it with their present garage on Moniteau Street increasing their present floor space of 40x60 to 40x120.

Messrs. Lander and McDowell will handle the Buick, Richmond, Reed and Cycle cars.

Mr Mansfield will devote his entire time in the future to his business in Sedalia, which is rapidly growning.

From the January 16, 1914 Tipton Times:

From the September 25, 1914 Tipton Times:

Returned to Tipton

Ado Mansfield and wife have decided to return to Tipton from Sedalia where last November they became citizens and bought a nice home.

Mr. Mansfield finds that this city is centrally located for his agency for cars, hence a deal was closed this week by Mace L. Minor whereby Mr. Mansfield and Mr. Joe W. Dick purchased from L. B. McDowell his garage equipment and secured a three year lease on the building, which belongs to Thomas Lander, with the privilege of buying it at any time during the life of the lease.

The style of the new firm will be Mansfield & Dick. Tipton people are please to have Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield return to this city to reside.

From the April 15, 1927 Tipton Times:

Motor-Inn Installs Auto Laundry System

Mr. Lawrence Herrnleben, owner and proprietor of the Motor-Inn Garage carries an attractive advertisement at another place in The Times announcing the opening of an auto laundry system at his popular place of business.

Among the handy contrivances Mr. Herrnleben installed to properly clean, grease and otherwise care for the appearance and running parts of an automobile is a vacuum cleaning system whereby the interior of a car may be thoroughly cleaned and renovated; a water pressure tank, polish outfits, brushes and everything needed for an up-to-date auto laundry system.

Lawrence also has the Buick agency for Tipton, does guaranteed auto repairing, carries complete stock of tires, tubes and accessories including the famous Lee puncture-proof  cord tires.

Andy Hainen owned and operated Hainen Motor Company starting in the late 1930s. His brother Ben, started as a salesman at this business. Two businesses came out of these families.

Hainen Buick (est. 1954)

From the 2008 Pictorial History of Tipton:

Hainen Buick

Hainen Buick Company was established on March 26, 1954 by B. A. ["Big Ben"] Hainen of Tipton. After returning from service in World War II, B. A. began his automotive career as a salesman for his brother, Andy, at Hainen Motor Co.

Upon receiving the sales contract from Buick Motor Division, Benny first opened for business on the northeast corner of the junction of Highways 5 & 50 which is currently [in 2008] Tuttle Auto Parts. Soon afterward, a new facility was constructed at the current location on Highway 5 & 50. Through the years other franchises were added along with Buick, those being Rambler, Case Farm Implements, International Harvester Trucks, GMC Trucks and Chevrolet.

B. A. Hainen remained active in the dealership until his death in 2002. Greg Hainen joined the business in 1977 and remains as dealer for Buick and Chevrolet Motor Divisions.

Hainen is one of the oldest continuous names for the Buick Motor Division franchise in the state of Missouri.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is unknown when Hainen Chevrolet Buick closed, however, the last mention I find of it in the Tipton Times paper is from December 2009.
