    Obituary of KINCHEN BALDWIN

The Loyal Missourian, Thursday, 6 April 1871 (An early Moniteau Co., MO newspaper)

    DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN
Departed this earth on the 26th March 1871, K. Baldwin was in the 90th year of his life. Mr. Baldwin was born in North Carolina, immigrated to Missouri in 1832. He was a soldier in the War of 1812.

He was twice married. By his first wife he had seven children; none by the last. He leaves to mourn his loss three children, 47 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. His eldest great grandchild is twenty years of age. His relatives are not left to sorrow as those
    who have no hope.

For over sixty years he was a strict member of the Regular Baptist Church and an exemplary Christian man. Before his demise, he called his descendants to his bedside and gave them his dying testimony that he could read his title clear to the Man found in the skies. And as he neared the "dark valley and the shadow," he seemed to see the head lands of Paradise Immortal, and often repeated "Praise the Lord!"

In his death was illustrated the poetic sentiment, the place
Where the good man meets his fate
Is privileged above the common walks
Of life, quite on the verge of heaven.

Kinchen Baldwin, born 1782, appears on the Hopkins County Kentucky Tax lists as early as 1822. He owned property on Flat Creek and Pond River, according to land records from Hopkins County. Kinchen lived in Hopkins County as late as 1837 when land records indicate that he sold his land on Flat Creek that adjoined the property of his wife's father, James Bailey (Baley).
