Woman found in river suffered gunshot wound

A gunshot wound was found on the woman's body pulled Sunday from the Missouri River near Lupus, Moniteau County Sheriff Kenny Jones said this morning.

He said the medical examiner's report confirmed the body was that of a woman, about 5 feet tall, medium build and dark brown hair. She was missing an upper front tooth.

The body had been in the water for a few weeks, Jones said, making further description, including race and age, difficult to determine.

Two fishermen discovered the body about 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the water near the 177.5 mile marker on the Moniteau County side of the river.

The body was found with cord around each ankle, but they weren't bound together, Jones said.

Information about the body has been disseminated state-wide over the Highway Patrol's MULES law enforcement network. Jones said he hopes for calls as early as today from other law enforcement agencies that might be able to connect a missing person to the body. No calls had been received by mid-morning.
